Default 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Engine Temperature sensor

I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500. Every now and then when I'm driving the temp. gauge drops right off. I have to shut off the engine then restart it to get the temp reading back. I think it must be the sensor. Does anyone no of anything else it could be? Is this a common problem?

Or the computer? You could try disconnecting the sensor and checking the connections. Maybe there's some corrosion.
