I have another new wix trans filter kit in my stash of parts. It is dated 04/10 as well. I will check out that seal carefully on installation. Thanks alot for the info!

 

Look carefully around the entire filter at the metal "lip" (for lack of a better term). It should be pressed against the filter body. If there is even a small gap--if it were me--i would pour fluid in the top spout (the part that goes into the upper oil seal), put my finger over the spout and rotate in all directions to see if fluid comes out of the seal anywhere. Not being under pressure it might not tell the whole story but it will sure tell you if it is bad enough. Regards.
