Default 06 1500 Rear Pinion Seal tools

I get the basic idea on how to change the rear pinion seal, but are there any "special" tools needed. I have a puller to get the yoke off, but what size is the nut? Is it a large socket size? If its big 20 mm or larger I will need to run and get one before I start the job. Also, how did you guys keep the yoke from spinning when you took the nut off? Did you just do it with the wheels on the ground?
Thanks

Also, it is a 9.25" rear end right?

9.25" correct.

Scroll down to post #6 HERE. It's a quick how-to.

Tools, just the basic. Yeah, you'll need a large socket for the pinion nut. 19 or 21mm sounds close. Use a block of wood to hammer the new seal inplace.

Thanks. I am almost done with it now. One thing. I took off the nut and counted 6 turns. When talking off the nut it takes alot of ft/lbs to get it off. Now when I put it back on I can get it to 6 turns in and line up with the marks with very little effort. How many ft/lbs should it take to get it back to line up with the marks? I am guessing not 250 ft/lbs.

I think you are supposed to replace the pinion nut as it is a one time use nut. Someone correct me if i am wrong please.

Hey wingnutks, I need to do this same thing in the next few days. What size of large socket did you end up needing? I've seen people mention a few different size.

Also what did you end up doing to keep the yoke from spinning? Any other tips would be great too if you have them!

Thanks in advance.

I believe you are right. How ever i marked the nut so that i could put it back into the same place. I did re-apply the nut with loctite thoigh. I actually just checked it tonight and the seal is still going strong and the nut hasent budged.

Sorry it took me so long to revisit this. I used a 1-1/4" socket and i did this with the wheels on the ground to keep the yoke from spinning.
