Offset Rims
Hey, looking to buy some new rims for my 2003 dodge ram 1500. I want something thats going to be wide and have that deep dish look, i considered hub spacers as well, but heard they're not good for your bearings etc.
Is this accomplished by negative offset? Or can you get the same look with positive offset? Im a little confused at the moment, looking at tirerack.ca for some 17" black rims, but i want to make sure they're going to have the look that i want.
Also, what is backspacing? From what I've read i thought i wanted negative offset to have my wheels extend outwards further, or is that backspacing? Could someone tell me what i should be looking for? Thanks

The more negative the offset, the deeper the "dish" or the more it sticks the tire outside the wheel wells. If you look at the backspacing, the smaller the number means the more the tire will stick out.
Ex. a -12mm offset will push the tire out farther than a 0 or a positive offset, a 4.5" backspacing will push the tires out farther than a 6" backspacing.
For tire width you have to consider the offset or backspacing for clearance of suspension and steering components, but the wheel width dictates how wide a tire you can run.
Rule of thumb is the wheel should be 3" narrower than the tire you plan to run with -/+ 1" being considered "in spec"
Ex. for a 12.5" wide tire you should look for a wheel with a width of about 8.5-10.5"...
I dunno what your budget is, but take a peek at the Crager soft 8s in black. A VERY STRONG, no frills black wheel that can be purchased for under $75 per wheel from many sources. Summit has a deal where they charge a flat rate of like $20 shipping when buying 4 wheels...
