Default Oil on air filter?

Hey,

I have an odd problem. I was looking around the engine today (for the heck of it) and checked the pcv valve and the air filter. I noticed that the air filter has a small stain of oil on it. The hose that runs from the air filter box to the oil reservoir is wet with a little oil. You can notice the moisture if you pull either end of the hose out. The pcv valve was also covered in oil when I took it out. It doesn't look to gunked up and the ball still rattles.

What could be causing this? I was doing some research and the crankcase breather kept coming up. Could that be part of the problem? If so, where the heck would that be at? lol

Thank you for any help or advice!

A little bit is normal, due to emission standards the crankcase is no longer allowed to just vent into the atmosphere and is dumped into the air intake. One of the two reasons why we need to clean the throttle body so often. Blow back into the filter is fairly common, especially if you allow the engine to sit and idle where a solid vacuum isn't formed forcing all the air toward the TB.

If there were no signs of oil vapor in the intake system it would be a sign that the PCV valve is clogged and needs replacing.

If it's a real issue for you, disconnect the tube from the intake system, plug the hole and install a filter on the tube. Auto parts stores sell them for under $10...

It's not mine, was a truck I built the CAI for and the young man opted for the filter instead of me drilling a hole in the tube for it.

It's a 4.7 also and it was a secure place for it and I didn't have to cut the stock tube to stick it there...

Any auto parts store, auto dept in Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Sears, etc... I've bought them in Advanced in both Ga. and Fl. for $8.99...

@ Hammer - Gotcha, like I said, just wondering. I didnt even pay attention to see it wasnt a 5.7

@ dylansav - Agreed, with Hammer. I got mine at the local auto parts store for about 9 or 10 bucks. I asked to go to the back where they had preformed hoses hanging on the wall and picked out one I knew would fit the nipple on the oil filler inlet and the air filter. It wasnt but a few bucks and to looked better than it sitting on the engine somewhere.
