Hello everyone!
I see a lot of posts here that are asking for MPG on the Hemi so I thought I'd offer my most recent experiences.
My Truck:
I have an 04 Ram 1500 QC Hemi 4x2 automatic with 20 inch tires and 3.92 gears that has had no engine or performance upgrades at all, not even a drop in filter change. I do run Mobil 1 synthetic if anyone thinks that matters.
My baby has 25k miles on her and was just recently given the new computer flash. This is my daily driver and family hauler.
What I Tow:
This spring, we purchased a new 22' deck boat and regularly tow it to a local lake. It is rated at 3700# dry weight, I have not weighed it but figure the boat and the trailer weigh in around 5000# when you include 45 gallons of gas, a 15 gallon fresh water tank onboard, coolers and other gear.
The Trip:
We recently went on a trip from Atlanta, GA to Bloomington, IN with our boat and truck loaded up with camping gear to visit some friends over the July 4th weekend. This trip was about 500 miles each way and mostly interstate driving, 65 to 70 MPH zones.
The truck performed beautifully and we never once felt like we had too much stuff and not enough truck. I drove the whole way there and back at the posted speed limits and always used the Tow\Haul mode. I must say we passed a number of vehicles with this rig and were only passed a few times by other tow vehicles or semi trucks. The Hemi was strong the entire trip.
Stats:
Solo driving with no trailer, I get around 14 to 18 MPG with mixed city and highway driving.
Towing this setup to Indiana and back, I got 11.7 MPG for the entire trip.
All numbers are using the overhead computer in the truck.
I really do love this truck.
I hope this information is useful.
Mike

My 11.7 was manually calculated. The trip computer read 12 exactially. That's my 2nd road trip with the boat. My first trip averaged 11.5 and the computer averaged 11.7. I manually calculate at every fill-up then reset the computer. My computer has never been more than 4/10s off after 21,000 miles. The computer on my last last dodge truck was 2 mpg off until they flashe the computer for another problem, then it was never more than a 1/10th off.

I was towing a boat of est weight 4500 lbs, approx 600-700 lbs in the bed, 2 adults, my daughter and another 100 lbs in the cab. Towing up 8 percent grades I was getting 11 mpg even. The truck is a quad cab, 4x4, off road package, 3.92 LS, 17 inch rims, 275 tires and a hemi.
