Default Just ordered HID..May need new headlights

So i posted this question last week and don't think I got an answer to it. Back story: I ordered a HID kit from HIDnation.com. Got 6k bi-xenon hi/lo kit, std ballast, relay harness, and resistor. My thing is that I hav always heard that using HID kits in OEM headlights is crappy and scatters the lights. The best is to use a projector housing. Ok that being said, do all projector for 03 ram come as halos? I really am not too crazy about that look but I also don't want to have ****ty lighting with expensive lights. If it doesn't look good, I might as well have went to wally world and bought lights from them.

If projector lights can come in a style other than halo, can someone point me in that direction? I want to keep the smoked look as well. Thats another reason why I went with HID is that halogen are so dim in a smoked headlight. Thanks in advance for any relevant, helpful input.

I was in Lordco today looking at HID's, My 06' uses H13's. After looking and talking with a few of the employees, I was informed that i would be loseing my Hi-beams with the HID's.

Is this the same for you? What bulb does your 03' use, and did you find a HID that will allow you to still use your hi-beams??

Thanks.

You have to purchase a bi-xenon H13 kit to keep your high beams.

The aftermarket projectors weren't made for HIDs any more than the OEM reflector housings were. If you want the HIDs to look "right" with the proper cutoff and all, you will need to retrofit a set of HID projectors into your stock housings.

Just noticed this thread should be in general discussion...

Rookie just as Anderson said, you need bi-xenon. If you don't, you'll have HID lo and halogen hi. Check out that site I ordered mine from.

Anderson thanks for the input. So how do I go about retrofitting the bulbs? Is this a simple DIY or can I buy a housing on eBay? I'm gonna check it out

I went back and reread your answer. So my 1st question is pointless...

Ok I need HID projectors and retrofit is just a term that means to modify, correct? I'm gonna google and see if I can find anything else

One of the problems with doing it that way is that our trucks turn off the low beam when you switch to high. HIDs really need to stay on. Every time you switch back to low beam they'll have to warm up again.

Really simple here. You need a bixenon HID kit some Mini Morimoto projectors. The low beam goes to the bulb itself with a diode to prevent electrical back feed while the high beam goes to a relay which feeds both the mechanical shutter AND the bulb.

With the relay at rest no voltage can back feed from the low beam into the relay and reach the mechanical shutter. With the high beam on, it will open the mechanical shutter while maintaining the bulb but the diode in the low beam wire keeps it from back feeding back into the ballast.
