Change Front Crank Oil Seal on a 2004 5.7HEMI
Hi,
I'm looking to change the front crank oil seal on my 2004 RAM with a 5.7HEMI. Do you have any advices for me? Anything I must know before doing it?
I found the Service Manual on the Web and it doesn't seem to be a very hard job to do. But, I am wondering if I really have to remove de radiator fan or if it is possible to do the job without removing it?
Thanks,
J.

Take the radiator out...pull off the crank pulley using a large pulley puller (there is a special one for crank pulleys but you can use any large puller)...then you can change the seal.
How many miles are on your engine? If the timing chain hasn't been changed in the past 100K miles, you might want to look at doing both at the same time. it's easier to change the seal if you have the timing cover off and it comes with the timing cover gasket set.

Oh my engine only has 120 000 Km so about 75 000 miles but there is a big chunk of the out of the bottom of the seal and you can see a bit of a groov in the shaft where the seal part is missing
wow i am kind of shocked to hear you say pull the rad it looks like lots of room
i have read something about using some other sleave i should use if there is a groove on the shaft ??
