Dodge 1500 payload capacity
I've read in the documentation that the 1500 will hold 1500-1600lbs in the back bed. I have an 06 Ram Short bed regular cap 4x4, with the 20" rims. Over the last couple weekends, i've been hauling some dirt/rock. I've had her loaded down pretty good, where the truck was 1/4" from the bump stops. My question is....Does anyone know how many lbs it takes to get down to the bumpstops? I'm guessing it would take somewhere around 2000lbs to hit the bump pads? Also, the new dodge rams with the coil over springs...is this better for hauling than the leaf springs?
I've had about 2300 lbs. of river rock in my bed (pre-bags) and they were pretty close, about where your describe yours as being, hit them a few times going over some little bumps.
Now with the air bags in, I've had about 1700 lbs in it once, put about 40# of air in the bags (max is 100#) and the truck sat dead level.
The rear coils are for better handling and a more luxury car-like ride, they are not as good for hauling or towing IMO, I've been in one a few times, not hauling but pulling a load and I didn't think the truck handled well at all.
A LOT of 4th Gen guys have found it necessary to install inner-coil air bags for even moderate load hauling...
