Default Towing Question??????

I have a 2002 1500 Quad cab 4x4 with the factory tow package ( 4.7 L). I am looking at getting a travel trailer that has a dead weight of 4050 lbs and a tonge weight of 410lbs. I am planning on using anti-sway bars/ weight dist. hitch. Any thoughts on if this will be any problem?

Sounds like the perfect trailer for your truck. Do you know what gears you have in the rear? With a dry weight of 4k lbs. the loaded weight is probably around 5500-6k lbs which is just about right. Most people don't tow their trailers with fully loaded tanks anyway because of the weight and mileage reason. Keeps the tanks low or empty while traveling and then fill them up when you get to your campground or are getting close to your destination. That way you will only have to tow that extra weight for a short period of time. Also, make sure to get a good brake controller, the Prodigy is usually a favorite among TT guys. That's what I have.

I have the same truck but I have the 5.9l. I pull a TT that has a dry wieght of 4500lbs, loaded I am around just under 6000lbs. I only use a weight distrabution hitch, but on long huals and windy days I wish I had sway bars as well. My TT is 26' and almost 30 from hitch to rear bumper. A good brake controller is a must, as the truck brakes are not enough to stop that much weight in a comfortable manner.

It has 3.55 gears according to the sticker in the glove box. And I do not plan on hauling with the tanks loaded. My wife will have plenty of other items loaded to add all the extra weight I need. It has a Syncronizer brake controller already installed by the previous owner.

Great, then it sounds like you are set to go. The 3.55's aren't the best towing gears, but I am sure they will be okay. If not, you can always upgrade to 4.10's or 4.56 gears, but that's a pretty expensive modification.

My TT is 27ft. and weighs 6k dry and 8300 fully loaded. I use a weight dist. hitch, sway control, and P3 brake controller. I don't tow it often, maybe 10 times a year, but I am also thinking about adding Firestone bags to the rear to help with sag and payload.
