06 Ram 5.7 trouble codes - key trick doesn't work
That ugly yellow check engine light came on today in my 06 Ram 1500 5.7. I tried the "key trick" to retrieve the codes and I couldn't get it to work (except when I tried it while pushing the trip/reset button at the same time, then I got the "codes" S 124, i 283, and C 447, but from what I can gather so far it looks like thoes are not trouble codes). I live in the over-regulated State of California and the law doesn't allow auto parts stores to read your codes and the dealer wants to bend me over for 3 figures just to check the codes. I inspected everything I could today and can't find anything obviously wrong (and yes, I did check the gas cap). Anyone out there know an easy way to get those codes without being robbed at the dealer?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Drive to Nevada?
You can probably buy a code reader cheaper than paying the dealer to do it.
Just make sure it is CANBUS compatible.
Do you know anyone with a Dodge truck that has a tuner such as a Diablosport Predator or a Superchips? They read codes too.
Oh yeah,

You need to perform the 'key trick' within 5 seconds (faster the better), from off-on 3 x stoping at on.
Watch the odometer it will list any p-codes and display DONE at the end of the list.
Below is a link to some c codes, none are what you have listed though, I could not find those anywhere.
