Default steering and heating issues

Hi everyone,

i just bought a 2004 ram 1500 my first dodge truck. i have a couple of issues maybe someone has some advice, i am not much of a mechanic.
the guy before me had a pwer steering leak and he had that repaired, new pump and something else new cant remember what he said, however there is a whinning with the strreing and also when i make a u-turn or try to park in a parking lot and i have very little revs on its like there is no assist and i have to haulk it round with both arms, makes parking very embarassing as its like doing a 3 point turn any suggestions?

also i have noticed that when i go uphill well this is where it seems to be worst the heating gauge goes way up to 3/4. i idled it yesterday for half an hour heat on full and it sat just below half way, i also drove it around today sat about half way until the end when i came home and up a hill it quickly went up to 3/4. it also happened a little on the highway if we had to go uphill it went up a bit not as much and soon came back down. i changed the thermostat the other day and also replaced the coolant. coolant levels are fine i still need to open the rad cap and see where they are in there since i filled it, there are no leaks the fan works i am baffled.

i am taking it to the dealer on monday just wondered if anyone had some advice or options on these issues that might save me a bit.

thanks everyone

try taking the power steering cap off and turn the wheel fully one way and fully back the other way a couple of times could be a air pocket in the power steering also take off the radiator cap and burp the colant could also be a air pocket in the rad.

hey, i tried taking the power steering cap off didnt seem to work just got stiffer the more i did it and makes a weird noise everytime the wheel moves. could it be the rack and pinion. also a guy at the garage said those trucks have something that makes the assist work under low revs he said it might be that which is a cheap fix not sure though. otherwise i have no idea.

i will burp the rad tonight i didnt bring any coolant with me and i am out of town so will do it when i get back see if that works. also should i use a specific coolant. we replaced it with just a coolant from the auto shop i think its called celcius or something like that

thanks
