question on 1500 lift
Looking into lifting my 2003 1500ram, I have a stupid question I have replaced keys to level it in the past will I need to repalce my lift keys with the stock keys for a aftermarket lift to work correctly.
Also I wondering if anyone has any experience running a 33"-34" tire with a 4.7l, I know it might be small but its not my daily driver and will mostly be used for hunting not serious off-roading. I have a 3.73 or something close to that for gearing I need to check my door tag again to know for sure.
Thanks

It depends on the lift you choose. You shouldn't stack two suspension lifts (level is technical a suspension lift) because it puts the CVs and other components at stupid high angles which leads to premature failure.
You can however combine a level kit and body lift with no problem whatsoever (and a true suspension lift and body lift as well, for that matter).
If you have factory gears they are either going to be 3.55 or 3.92, lets hope for 3.92s as they'll turn those bigger meats a LOT easier, especially with the smaller of the three available V8s that are/have been in 3rd Gen Rams. Door tag won't tell you. You should have a tag in the glove box and/or a sticker on the rear axle.
I know guys running 35s with a QC 4x4 1500 with the 4.7 and even with the stock 3.55 gears. It won't set any speed records and won't pull a lot of weight well and acceleration to get on the highway or pass kinda sucks, but it's perfectly drivable...

I've a 4~5" rough country lift on top of 2" keys.. I set the bars as low as I safely could, but I'm not at all happy with the 'swim' when I hit uneven pavement or dips.. the only reason they are still on there is that I tossed the oe keys.
If you're going to do what I did, make sure and select a good shock as that will help with the swimming..
Hammer is right as usual.. the fellas who put the lift on my rig were all about height.. they cranked the bars as high as they could with the lift, then stacked a three inch block on top of the two inch block on the rear, and all of that on top of 3"+ easy ride leaves.. it looked and rode horrible..
I removed all of the blocks and sit on the 3"+ leaves alone, and turned the keys down (after blowing intermediate shafts on both sides).. I run Dick cepek fcii 35"x12.5" rubber..
You can check my profile for pics if you're interested.. other than the swim, I love how the truck looks and rides.. the thing about lifts, and this is just me, but the trick is maximizing ground clearance while keeping it as low as possible.. practicality..
Hope for 3.92's... Those 3.55's are going to work your tranny, your economy, and make you a slug, not to mention seriously reduce your towing and hauling capabilities.. do yourself a favor and put an external cooler and filter on that tranny, and make sure your diff oil is in good condition and at the right level.
