Default Tranny check valve - 2002 ram

ok, does this valve exist on the 3rd gen rams? It's a valve in the lower line going to the tranny cooler on the pass side, by the radiator. i just got a ram and have read all over where this little valve will totally jack up (overheat) the tranny if not either (1) replaced or (2) hollowed out completely. I've read quite a bit on the automotiveforums.com site and several folks recommend that you just drill out the ball and remove the spring completely; others say just replace it. Can anyone specifically tell a new ram owner how to do this and exactly where this valve is? many thanks
