Default Life expectancy of a Mud Terrain

Hey folks, I sort of wanted to expand on the "tire prices" post and add my own question. Here in my region of the country(Central Valley, Calif) BFG is about the most expensive tire out there when it comes to the A/T's that fit the larger rim sizes. I've been looking for a 35"A/T to fit the 20" rim w/out going wider than 12.5" wide. This has proven very difficult, as BFG is the only one to make an all terrain in a 35" that can be mounted on the 20" X 9" wheel. Most tire manufactures want a rim that is at least 9.5"-10" wide. In any case, the best that I have found locally is about $360/tire. Pretty steep in my opinion. I have also considered going to a mud terrain tire, but I am wondering how long a M/T will last if it is used exclusively on road. I really like the Toyo M/T's. So far the best that I've found is $330/tire. I am however, concerned about spending this much money if the tires are only going to last 10 to 20,000 miles. I am also considering going down to an 18" wheel to open up my wheel/tire combo options. I recently got an estimate for 4wheel parts on the 18X10 EVO Slingblade (chrome) wheel with 35 x 12.5 r18 Toyo M/T's and it came out to about $4500.00 out the door. Any responses or input will be appreciated.

Are you going to go off road or just want the look. Go to www.tirerack.com to compare and get opinions.

on my truck i have the 285/55/20's BFG Ko's and they are 8 ply. we have a ranch that has a 10 miles of dirt road and we usualy drive it on it daily. so far the only tires that i know for 20" that are 10 PLY are the toyo mt's and since iv seen those tires been put on rock crawling trucks. i think those toyos are gunna last. cuz the 10 ply tires that we use usualy last us about 6 months +- of daily driving on that 10 mile strech of dirt road with sharp gravel road. and during the harvest season, we do like 4+ rides to the ranch and back. and thats like 80 miles, and theres also a 20 mile winding pavement road to get to the city.

o if u want something that will last, ask for 10 ply tires. but the only one that i found is the toyo m/ts. another easy way to tell if the tire is 10 ply is if it has Load Range "E" shud be like the letter E with a circle around it

ask about the BFG Mud Terrain KM's, but the only tires on those that are load range E are the 235/85/16 245/75/16, which are 16" tires. The KOs that are load range E are also 16"

so far the 20" that are load range E class tires are the Toyo M/T's, and i asked about the Toyo M/T's for my truck and the price came out to around 2 Grand... EEK..
