Default 4 cylinder high idle

I was thinking the other day, my brother's cummins has a 3 cylinder high idle. And my hemi has mds...so would a 4 cylinder high idle warm it up faster in the hemi as it does the cummins?

This is mostly hypothetical, I'm sure it would be a nightmare to make it run on a 4 cylinder high idle.

technically yes it would.. the principle behind the 3 cylinder high idle is that having three cylinders deactivated causes increased load on the engine thus helping in heating up the engine faster.

also keep in mind the CTD doesn't just deactivate 3 cylinders it alternates between all 6 so that uneven wear doesn't occur...

I have no idea how you would program a hemi to do it though.

Exactly...there would have to be some sort of 'trigger' to start the mds...I'll have to scour some wiring diagrams.

With the same 4 always being deactivated in the hemi, do you think you'd notice additional wear if it was used in this way? If that was the case you'd think the wear would be noticeable when being used at ~2000 rpm all the time.

I'm almost positive the VP doesn't alter the dead cylinders; it just kills three and it's the same three. The Common Rail doesn't have three-cylinder high.

Wear isn't really an issue, everything is getting oil the same as it does all the the time.
