2006 5.7 Hemi Transmission fluid & filter
I've got 40,000 miles on my 06 RCSB 5.7 hemi dodge ram. I bought the truck used in 2008 with 14,000 miles on it for $13,250. At the time it was a steal.
At around 10,000 miles the owner told me he took it in for warranty work because he had a delay in the transmission when he shifted into Reverse. The dealer dropped the pan, put in new filters, and filed it back up with Oil.
In the past couple years, when it's cold, there is once in a while that i go to put the truck into reverse and it has a delay. So i shift it back into drive...wait 10 secs then shift back into reverse and it works fine. I've read on here that it's the fluid that runs out of the filter and it's responsible for the issue. Is there any truth to this?
So now that i'm at 40,000 miles, I decided to go ahead and change the transmission pan to a mag-hytec with a drain. I personally don't like transmission flushes, but i plan to drop the pan, replace the filters, then in about six months, drain and fill again. Since i'll have the drain plug, i'll have the convience of pulling the plug every six months to change the fluid in the pan. Eventually, most all of the oil transmission fluid will be displaced.
Regardless, I bought the magtech tranmssion pan and it mentions it comes with the flat filter, gasket, and bolt kit. It sounds like there is another "spin-type" filter in the transmission that i need to replace? Any suggestions on size, type, and model? Additionally, I was going to replace the bolts with better ones than stock...is the bolt kit that Mag-hyptec supplies supperior or do i need to go ahead and get new bolts?
Last but not least, what kind of transmission fluid is recommended to throw back in? Anything else i'm missing? Thanks
Kevin

I bought the extra deep pml pan from AIRRAM.COM (they got free shipping) and had it drilled and tapped for oil temp sensor..
