alarm issue
I own a 2005 Ram 1500 4.7 Qaud Cab....I have had the truck for a little over a year now (bought used obviously) and its a great truck. It has a keyless entry system (OEM Factory NO REMOTE START, and NO INTERIOR SENSORS THAT I CAN FIND) and the keyless entry works wihtout failure. The security light on the dash IS THERE and DOES EXIST, however I cannot seem to find anything via internet or dealership that will tell me if my trucks "anti theft" capabilities are working!!!
If I lock/arm the system with the window rolled down, and reach to open the door, nothing happens.....here is the best part, the day I bought the truck it was working because I armed/locked the truck and used the key to enter and the alarm started to work......but no more......
I have read many many threads, articles, comments on several different websites, and so on.....I have heard of wires in the driver door kick panel, different coding methods for the FOB, valet mode activation and deactivation, etc etc etc ........just loads of great useful information but nothing directly related to my problem.....if anyone out there has any idea where to start to troubleshoot this issue please please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some additional information that may be helpful in responses:
Aftermarket radio installed (pink/yellow wire on factory harness has been cut, I am assuming by previous owner, however it does not prevent radio from working properly)
Drivers door "cervo" for locking mechanism was replaced with universal "cervo" to return it to working order (no wiring modifications for this repair to my knowledge)
It is a SLT model with power "everything" none Laramie

I'm seeing you and others with the same question arent getting answers. I have the same question as of 2 days ago on a Ram 1500 2011. My dealer (who installed/configured) the system 1 week ago today using OEM "parts" (I think it's all computer on the truck, the parts being the new fobs) told me it's because the arming process happens too fast for the dash light to catch up.
Yup, that's what he said. He also said he'd never seen one work the way the manuals describe all the time, that it depends on weather, temperature and driving conditions. Well I happen to have spent 2 years in college delving into the mysteries of electro-magnetism and I certain know bovine excriment when I hear it. I guess he was just wanting me to go away so he wouldn't have to take a ding on a bad installation. Well, I didn't have a choice, he refused to do anything about it.
So maybe we can help each other? Here's the ackground on mine, you tell me what similar to yours. Hopefully we can narrow it down.
Mine is a 2011 Ram 1500 ST with a couple of extras added (power windows/locks, V8, upgraded radio, etc). It was a demo I just purchased 1 week ago. I had them add the remote start function and provide me with the new fobs. They did.
I tested the alarm by sitting in the truck, locking the doors, waiting a little bit and then opening the doors. The alarm sounded. Didn't pay any attention to the light at that moment. I got out the owner's manual and learned how to program the fob so it won't honk the horn during arming. That worked.
Then just 2 days ago, when I was showing the truck to a friend, he asked why my red security light wasn't on if I just armed the alarm. So that's when I noticed the light wasn't working. Took it in today and was told it wasn't a problem, and anyway the horn is also a deterrent and that's how they all work.
So did you fiddle with programming the alarm system to make changes to factory default? What did you change, if you can recall?
