Default Heater core by-pass?

Sorry if I am asking a question that has been asked a 100 times...

I have a 2003 1500 with the 4.7 that has had overheating issues.. Mechanic had toubleshooted it to a potential clogged radiator.. (Wish I had seen that common issue thread a few hours ago...) But, he also noticed the heater core is leaking.. No surprise, I had smelled the coolant in the past..

Now, to my question, is there any negative effect to bypassing the heater core? It looks to be an easy job as the to heater lines can be reached easily once the air intake hose is removed.. I know stop leak is a possible solution, but I am kind of leary of going that route...

Any feedback or reccomendations would be great!!

Thanks!

Brian

Except for being cold in a few weeks, nothing bad can happen by bypassing the heater core.

Your defrost won't work. In Virginia, that'll cause the vehicle to fail the annual safety inspection.

Thanks for the input... At least I know I can by pass it and put it off for a while.. The money I just spent on the overheating really hurt.. I may just need a jacket for a few days later on...
