I had a similiar idle problem on the 1500 I picked up. Erratic idle and such.
I pulled the throttle intake off the motor, gave it a serious cleaning with carb cleaner and soaked my TPS and my IAC while I scrubbed down the throttle body. What I found was the flapper in the throttle body would not close properly because of carbon build up. After cleaning that TB and fixing a leaky vacumn hose it idles just fine now.
If you have carbon build up around that flapper it could contribute to an erratic idle.
