2002 dodge ram 1500 rear diff carrier

will a second gen. dodge diff carrier fit in my third gen. truck and also would the axle be the same splines and length? I am trying to rebuild my rear diff. as cheap as possible. I can't find a rear for that truck for under $1300. I can find a lot of second gen. rears for $75.
