Exclamation Idler Pulley

What is the procedure in removing the idler pulley? Is the bolt holding the pulley left or right handed thread? Do I need a puller to remove the pulley? Do I really need a torque wrench when re-tightening the bolt?(calls for 33ftbs) The belt tensioner pulley has to be loosened first, correct. The pulley I'm talking about(which is causing all the whining) is just below the alternator on my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. TKS in advance.

Most likely righty-tighty, lefty-loosey. No reason to be different since the pulley just spins on the bearing. A torque wrench isn't essential, but is a handy thing to have. Yes, you need to remove the belt first.

You shouldn't need a pulley puller. Once you get the bolt off the pulley should just come right off as well.

At last, problem solved. No more whining. It was the Drive Align- B/S Pulley. There are two of them, one under the Alt. & the other under & just to the right of the tension er pulley. It was the one under the tension er pulley. They both have the smooth surface. Really want to thank all of you for your continuous effort in helping me find this problem. Also for saving bucks in my pocket, because I would have bought an Alt. and put it on.It was your trial and errors that saved me this money. Thanks to all of you great people out there. Its so good to hear the sound of that Hemi again.
