Exclamation Replacing a TIPM in a 2006 1500

Is it possible to replace the TIPM ourselves? It's apparently fried.. and I now have no 4wd as a result.

And if it is something we can do ourselves, is it just as easy as going to a wreckers and getting the part..?

Thanks!

Are you sure it is the TIPM?

I had a similar issue, the dealer installed the wrong TIPM for my vehicle which fried the little motor on the transfer case that engages AWD, 4HI or 4LO.....also ended up frying the TIPM...

My truck has the AWD option and Chrysler keep shipping a TIPM for the truck that did not have AWD option....after about the third TIPM and transfer case motor Chrysler updated there data base to include two TIPM's for my truck and go figure the last TIPM shipped had a big sticker on it that said must be used in vehicles with a certain transfer case, etc...the one with AWD....

Once you install a new TIPM the dealer needs to input the VIN number on the TIPM.

I've had it to two dealerships & they both said the same thing.. One of them said they could see it sparking???
I was quoted $2700 to get it fixed as the transfer case needs to be replaced as well.

Is it true that if I decide to go to a wreckers to get a TIPM that I will need to find a TIPM that has the same serial # as the one in my truck has?
