Headers and Tick
I read on another forum that somebody got headers and his hemi tick got louder. Does anybody know more info about this? I want to get headers, but don't want that crazy tick to get louder. Someone said that it is due to the thin wall of the aftermarket headers ringing out more noise than the stock cast headers. So I'm thinking maybe sending the headers to JetHott. Add a little more mass and a few horsies to boot.
the tick might just be an exhaust leak coming from the collectors @ the ends not seating right , unbolt them , tighten them again and this time make sure you do it equally.
if it ticks you still have the problem repeat the above until its not heard.
also , check with your hand to feel any air seeping through where they meet, that will indicate where you need to tighten more.

Yes, "ticks" are usually exhaust leaks--especially with headers. They can be leaking at any weld or connector, especially at the cylinder heads, as well at the collectors. This used to be common with headers, but better manufacturing and thicker flanges have helped. However, I've seen some pretty expensive stainless systems with faulty welds at the flange that have leaked and required either returning or having the weld fixed locally.
I don't think a click is endemic to the hemi. Mine doesn't click. Nor, do I think Jet-Hot Coating is an answer to any sound problem, per se. JHC supplies a bit of heat insulation, looks reasonably pretty for awhile, and gives a bit of longevity to the pipes if they aren't stainless and the coating isn't scratched.
Good luck with your choice.

Thanks for the help guys. I guess I won't let the tick get in the way of my headers, for now. I know some people here have mentioned the tick before and nothing really came of it. No one has reported a dropped valve or broken valve spring or their engine blowing up yet, so I'll just keep my ear on it just to be safe. As it stands right now I am leaning towards Dynatech headers. I would like to get the Corsa exhaust, but that's too much coin for me right now. I'll probably just go with the Dynatech combo (headers and the Magnaflow ex.)
Anybody let me know if this choice is a bad one or if there is a better one. Thanks.

I'm presuming that the Dynatech are the stainless, long-tubes? If so, they have a pretty good rep on other forums. They and several other comparable brands have been repeatedly independently dynoed and found to all perform about the same, adding about 10% rwhp and perhaps slightly better torque, give or take--typically with a better breathing filter factored into the mix.
All the best and let us know what you think of them for the truck.

The "Hemi tick" is definitely not an exhaust leak. Sure the exhaust "ticks" but that ain't the Hemi "tick". Apparently not all Hemis have this frustrating tick, click, rattle, etc., as it's been described, but there is a pile of them that do. Mine has more than one. Many people have suggested what it might be but as far as I know nobody has actually come up with a solution to get rid of it. There is ALOT of people that would luv to know how to, and I am one of them. If you have this Hemi "tick" (and you'll know if you do) and you install a thinner walled header ( than the stock manifold, haha) the noise will undoubtedly get louder, more pronounced. Many will attest to this happening. Installing a CAI that removes the Hemi-hat will also make it louder, so the majority agrees. I took my hat off and it got much louder. Makes sense as you are removing "insulation" that is dampening some of this "noise". If you don't have the Hemi "tick, very lucky you, wanna trade motors? Far as broken valve springs, valves, bearings, pistons/rings, "blown" Hemis, there's been many of those too. I wonder how one could find out just how many have had internal problems and what time period they were built. Obviously there was a time period when DC used or did something different when putting these things together. Mine is an '04 built in Nov. 03, don'y know exactly when they built the motor itself. Luv my truck except for the noise in my Hemi and that darn TCM. I wanna control my own torque, that's why I bought a Hemi in the 1st place. Good luck and be sure to post how it went after you install the headers. Inquiring minds wanna know. [8D]
