I've been reading in the 4th Gen forum guys are cranking their headlights up a bit to improve their performance on their trucks, raising the focus up a bit.

I've fought with the lights on my 06 since I bought it. I'm running the brightest bulbs you can buy for it, and its still sub par. I've attached some 'garage shots for you guys to have a look at.

1st pic (Low Beams @ ~20ft)
2nd pic (High Beams @ ~20ft)
3rd pic (High Beams + Lightforce Offroad Lights @ 20ft).

I use my offroad lights to be able to see properly on the highway.

Please advise! I'll go buy the Torx 20 screwdriver this evening if it'll help.

Your brush guard impeding anything?
I've seen them do weird stuff.


Can you get any pictures farther away? Like down the road or something? So we can see the light dispersion.

 

I've always thought that the Ram headlights suck compared to the other truck company's. Ford and Chevy in particular, but even Nissan and Toyota's are better. The headlights have a pretty narrow spread on the beam.

 

Our reflectors are smaller.
That is why.

For my 2005 I have not seen a truck with better factory headlights. I have the factory bulbs and fogs in mine and find them to be more than sufficient. That is unless the PO changed the bulbs out. But the housing are untouched.

Compared to all the angry eyebrow chevy lights like the Colorado and the avalanche... Dodge is much better. I don't have experience with the newer lights.. And I've found the 06+ lights to be not as good at the 05-.
This is all my opinion though.

 

I had what I believe were the OEM bulbs (Philips?) in the truck when we bought it. They were beyond terrible. We could not see ANYTHING at night, it was almost like the headlights weren't even on. The PIAAs are 1000x better, but still lacking IMHO.

I guess I'm just trying to figure this out before we plow into a moose during a winter night drive...

 

Headlights at a 30ft distance on a flat surface should be the same height on the wall as your bulbs are on your truck. Cranking up your headlights to the sky(blinding others) actually makes things worse not better as you loose light reflection from the ground. There is a high saturation of light when aimed up high.
