Default when i need a new hemi...

have a 2004 1500 5.7 w/165k on it. was think of selling it and getting a new one... but i like this truck.

down the line other then a rebuild could i upgrade to:

a 6.1? if i get the pcm with it? what about tcm? could i just use my pcm?

the 6.1 came in
2005–2010 Chrysler 300C SRT–8
2005–2008 Dodge Magnum SRT-8
2006–2010 Dodge Charger SRT-8
2006–2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8
2008–2010 Dodge Challenger SRT-8

or could i get a 5.7 from a 2009+ ? not crazy about MDS but... 390hp vs 345p in 2004

just trying to decide what i will do when... is it cost effective or too much money/work/time

thx

If you get a 3/4 ton w/ hemi- you won't get MDS...

Personally- I would buy a 2012 Power Wagon-- get the best of all worlds! no MDS, Hemi, front and rear diff lock and sway bar disconnect-- you won't need to put any $$ into it except for the $600/mo payments!

You can get some pretty good gains from a programmer (like superchips or diablo), headers/exhaust, and a cold air intake. If you take care of that hemi, I think you probably have plenty more miles before it's time to get another truck. After these things, there are still more cost effective ways to get more power before swapping engines.

For all the money needed for a swap, or a new truck, a new crate engine with some mods (or even just a new long block) could easily put you way ahead of the stock 6.1
Then throw in some detroit true tracks--or similar--, and some 4.10's or 4.56's

You've already got a truck you really like----now just make it kick butt!!
