Default Stiff steering

I just bought a 2007 1500 laramie, (50k kms.) when I test drove the truck I noticed the steering "felt funny" it seemed to have spots when you turned the wheel it was stiff for a second then felt normal. I told this to the salesman and he commented it might be the poor condition of the road we were traveling on. Everything else on the truck was in mint condition so I assumed it was the road, however after I purchased the truck I drove 150 kms home on straight highway I could still feel the steering being stiff. Is this just the nature of the beast or is there something wrong?

It should be smooth throughout the steering range. How is the fluid level? Is the rack leaking? My rack is leaking and sometimes its stiff at the very first starup in the morning. Its never rough after I'm going and fluid is flowing.

Mine does that too sometimes. It gets worse when its colder out. I noticed it does it too when the RPMs drop low. Either way its never given me a problem other than that so I never looked into it

The level is ok and there are no apparent leaks it only seems to do it on the highway on small steering corrections, otherwise it works fine
