Thanks for the input guys. I will definitely not change the rear end or tranny fluid, at least not until scheduled. I did switch to Mobil 1 5W-20 and based upon using Mobil 1 in my other vehicles, I don't expect this to change MPG. The biggest MPG improver I've found on this truck so far is not driving it in city stop and go traffic.

Now to open a new can of worms, what's everyone's opinion of oil filters? I've gotten recommendations for NAPA Golds, whicha re really rebadged WIX filters.

Try researching what Royal Purple has.... On Horsepower TV, they did a Royal Purple complete fluid change on a late model Camaro (tranny, engine and rear-end fluids). They dynoed before and after and gained a few horse power. I think like 5 or so. You should see a slight increase in mileage as well. The mileage might not be a huge increase, but the added protection to your parts is priceless.

I was doing some research on this awhile back. I don't have the link anymore, but could probably find it or just do anyother Google search on oil filter reviews. In the ones I read, the NAPA Gold and Wix, along with Mobil 1 were the only filters they recommended. They absolutely didn't like Fram. The paper media wasn't the quality of the others, the bypasses tended to be bad and they actually found cigarette butts and ashes in them when opened. Given that I've always just alternated between NAPA and Wix now, depending upon which parts store I'm going by.

For what it's worth, I got about 1-1.5 mpg more when I switched to Mobil1.

Thanks, I went with Mobil 1 and Napa Gold as they were the easiest to find. Napa also carries AMSOIL 5W-20 now.

What do you guys think of the Lucas oil stabilizer? Is that a bunch of hooey? They also have a synthetic version, and they have the top end lubricant/fuel additive.

I don't use it, but all the parts stores around seem to push Lucas over the others. If I feel I need a stabilizer, I usually get Sea Foam. It has worked great in my boats.

Sea Foam also makes an excellent intake cleaner. CLeans all of the carbon, soot, crap out of the intake in one shot. I typically use it at 30K mile intervals. This isn't an in the tank deal, it is straight down the intake and let sit.

This is the one I use. It's intended to be used in the tank or poored into the intake. Since I started mixing it with my fuel it has eliminated the varnish buildup I get when the boats sit for 8 months out of the year.

Yup, that's the stuff. I think they also have a foam that can be used to get to and cling to more parts when cleaning the intake. I can normally only find it at NAPA.

I run full syn Mobil 1 for oil and squeeze 5K out of a change. Just driained my first 5K oil and was pleasently surprised, it did not look bad at all. Conventional or even partial syn at 3K looks worse!

I am going syn in my differential soon. I want to find a hemi cover to put on it, which is when I will change to syn.
