Default Engine Replacement

Alright, so my mechanic is saying that I need a new engine and wants to charge me $5000 for a new engine and installation. He is saying that the engine will be $3000 by itself. I'm pretty sure he's trying to rip me off so I'm looking around for an engine thats remanufactured to put in myself with the help of a friend. Does anyone know where I can pick up an engine thats good for a good price? I've found a couple of different sites that are offering $1995. Is that a good price or can I find one for better? Any help would be awesome, thanks guys...

2000 sounds about right for a good one. I'm sure you could find cheaper on ebay or CL but idk how much I would trust them

Why is your mechanic saying you need a new engine? Is the block cracked or worse? Most engine problems can be repaired.

If you need a new engine I would check into Jasper Engines. They have a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty and known several people who have had good luck with them.

Yes you do have to go through a Jasper dealer, but there are quite a few of them.

Just did an engine swap on my 07. Bought it with a bad engine, found one at a salvage yard with 40k miles for $1650 shipped. www.car-part.com check it out you can search for engines US wide and find the closest to you.
