Default Confused: Rear Differential Fluid Capacity

2006 1500 Mega Cab 4x4
(it has the 10.5 rear end per my buildsheet that I got from the local dealership)

I changed the fluid in the rd...from what I've read here on the forum you should fill to 3/4" below the fill hole. When I did this it took 3 quarts of RP to get it to this level.

I've also read here on some of the posts that it takes 2.4 quarts...I asked the dealership today and they said put in 5.2 pints...really confusing.

My question is...did I overfill it? Will this hurt anything?

My 9.25 takes about 2.5 quarts to get to 1/2 below fill hole. Maybe the bigger rear end takes a bit more. I would worry as long as its 1/2 to 3/4 below the fill line.

Agreed. However you can fill it until it comes out the fill hole and it still wont hurt anything.

Well, 5.2pints = 2.6qts Most of the time you'll get 2.8 or 2.9qts out of the bottles(3qts total) depending on how well you allow them to empty. So, if you only had a little left or none at all it wouldn't suprise me because 1/4" of the fill hole depth can mean the difference.
