Default 2005 Hemi oil capacity

The owners manual says 7 quarts w/filter. This is now the second time I changed the oil, both times it took 7.5 quarts to get it to the full mark on the dipstick.

Anyone notice this? If not are you using a mopar filter? I am wondering if that is why I take 7.5, I am using a Mobil 1 filter.

Mine is a little under the full line with 7 qts. If I would you I would never put in more than 7qts. It is better to run 1/2 qt low than 1/2 overfilled.

yeah dude only put 7 qts. The dip stick will always read 1/2 qt low. Thats just how all Hemi dip sticks read.

Mine reads right at full with 7 quarts. I suggest the following.

1. After changing the oil, go ahead and start as usual and check for leaks.

2. Shut it down and let it sit for at least 20 minutes so that all the oil can drain back.

3. Now check the oil.

It could be that if you check it right after shutting it down that you are getting a false reading. On the flip side, be sure to check the tranny when it is hot and with the engine running. Oh yeah, be sure to be on a level surface.
