For reference to others - If you hold an open end wrench on the fan nut vertically and give it two whacks with a hammer straight down, it generally knocks it loose and it'll spin off. Need the belt on for that, works 90% of the time.

I just ended up having my friends hold a strap wrench on the pulley while i took a few wacks at an adjustable wrench. You dont need to completely hold the pulley from moving, just enoigh to shock it loose.

You seem to be really stressing counter clock wise. It makes me feel like I am missing something.
I know the rotation of the fan/pump is supposed to be ccw.
If I am understanding this, you immobilize the pully and turn the nut on the end 'lefty loosey'?

I may just be overthinking this.

Yeah, I jam the pulley, put a pipe wrench on the fan but and give it a whack with a dead blow hammer (less vibration) in the lefty loosey direction

I torqued mine down to the 18ft/lbs on my 03 5.7 and found that to be more than adequate.
Your correct about the 43ft/lbs for the 3.7 and 4.7ltr engines and the 5.9 as well.

Thanks.
That really helped me out.

As a note to anyone that may be searching these threads later:

You don't need to completely stop the turn of the pulley, just slow it enought that the hammer is able to break free the 'nut' on the fan.
