Gears..Gears.. and More Gears
Whats up ya'll
Well as my incidents keep racking up where I would seriously love to have a locker and of course new gears..I am going to scrounge to my bottom dollar and get em. I already decided on a detroit locker for the chrysler 9 1/4 axle, but heres my question that I cant seem to find an answer too. I really wanna get some grimy, mean 4.88's to go with my 35's mainly cause I love low end power and pullin anything I can chain or strap (especially my buddies ford). The only question I have is that come the horrid months of NEPA weather, I will be putting my 31 A/T's back on. How will the beast like 4.88's treat me with the small tires on. I could do 4.56's, but like I said I have a fascination with the 4.88's. Any input is much obliged. Thanks fellas.

Whats up Al. I think you misread, its the 9.25 rear.. Ive been lookin at some sights and found the 4.56's and 4.88's for my axle. I may be wrong, well actually idk, i think im right haha. But thanks anyway
There are 4.88's but for the rear only. As for your rpms, this calculator is helpful: http://www.csgnetwork.com/multirpmcalc.html
For almost a year and a half i have been running 4.88's w/ 28" (305/45/18) Nitto Drag Radials in the rear 8 months of the year and she moves out good. Switch to Toyo 295/45/17 (28") during winter and gotta relearn throttle response due to lack of traction.
I am typically under 70 99% of the time.
With all that said, i am about to switch them out for 4.56's and replacing my oem lsd for Auburn.

Hi MegatronOrDie.
Sorry bud....i wrote that wrong. I meant largest size for a 4x4 1500 is 4:56.
They do make as mentioned 4:88's for the 9 1/2" Dodge rears but, the ratios must match on the front and rear diffs in a 4x4 otherwise it's toast for the transfer case lol.
The 4:56's will be a MASSIVE improvement with those size of tyres.

High gear ratios are lower numbers. 3:55, 3:08. Low ratios are higher numbers. 3:96, 4:10, 4:56. Just saying so anyone who might read through this thread won't get the wrong idea. I knew what you meant, but I wrench for a living.
