Just wanna say thanks....
So had a CEL come on the other day and its the first one I've had with this truck. It just hit 60 K miles (100km.) I remember reading that Hammer recommended changing out the EGR valve at about that mileage. So with the help found on this forum I tried the key code trick and it sent back a P1404. Bad EGR valve. Still have a powertrain warranty on it for another 4 months. Called the stealership and they said that the EGR valve was a 3 year / 36000 mile part and that it wasn't covered. I then asked them how much to replace the EGR and they said $420 + tax. I then inquired about the part and he quoted me 160 + tax. Then he told me the 2 gaskets didn't come with the valve and they would be an extra $5 each!! I then called my local NAPA parts and he quoted me 120 + tax (gaskets included.) Then called a local parts store and he quoted me $65 with the gaskets included. Picked it up earlier this afternoon, 35 minutes later put it in, disconected the battery for 15 minutes, and voila, CEL gone and truck is running smoother. Just want to say thankyou to all the members who regularly contribute to these forums (especially Hammer, Weedahoe and Dirtydog). Never been a "handy" kind of guy before owning this truck, but with the help and support found on this forum, I've tackled changing out my differential fluids, installing a CAI, changing my front brakes, changing out the spark plugs (lol..took me 4 hours) and lastly changing out the EGR valve. Would have never attempted any of this without the great info. found here. Time and MONEY saved....thanks.
