Default Shifting

We just bought a 2003 Ram. When I get in the truck, and start it, I try to put it in DRIVE it will not go.. I step on the brake.. I lift the shifter forward and try to get it into DRIVE and it just wont go!! It is so frusterating!! I sit there and try and try.. and then all of a sudden.. it will go!! Anyone else have this issue??? It is ANNOYING!! Thanks.

On my previous vehicles the brake pedal when pressed also released a electromechanical lock mechanism for the shifter. I would assume the ram has it as I habitually put brakes on. I would put foot on brake and check your brake lights reason being I believe its tied to same switch so if your brake lights acting weird too I'd suspect a bad switch. Now I could be wrong and you could have mechanical issues with tranny but its a cheap and easy shot worth two minutes of your time.
