need to change my water pump (02 1500 5.9) Question is when removing the fan from the pump are the threads rt. or left handed and is there a special tool for holding the pump pully

 

I THINK the threads are normal right tight left lose. I have got many of them fan nuts off with a good fitting wrench and a big hammer, one good smack and it should break f
ree.

 

Well let me add some conflicting info, lol. I thought they were reverse threaded to get the fan clutch off. They make a special 'spanner wrench' to hold the pulley in place but I couldn't find it at my local auto store to rent. I put a couple of bolts in the holes and used a pry bar to hold it in place. I have a few pics in this thread that I made.

But I just looked it over and I didn't mention if it was reverse threaded or not...

 

I managed to get my water pump off with the fan attached and undammaged, I used a vice to hold the shaft and got the fan off no problem.

This may be extra work as the shrowd and all that had to come out.
