Hello, I have been getting a cylindar 2 misfire error code for about 2 1/2 yrs now. I have had the coil chaged on cylndar 2, had the injectors ,cleaned,had the engine cleaned of any carbon build up,and finally, I had the computor chAnged. All this on my warranty. It happens randomly,causing a very hard idle. I have discovered that if I rev the engine to about 3800 rpms,the engine will catch , and it will idle normal. I acctually do this whenever it misifires to avoid getting the check engine light. Although there are sometimes when I cannot avoid the light. But get this,after about 2 or three days of running fine, the light will turn off.

I have recently got a check engine light without the misfire, and it turns out that I have some type of vacume leak in my fiuel system. Can this be related? Can the leak have been causing this misfire all this time, but just now get the error code for the leak? I , along with the dealer ( who I personally think are lazy) and a local mechanic , am stumped? No one can tell me why my truck is misfireing.

By the way,I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 5.7 liter engine. Runs like a champ,except for those random misfires. Can someone please help?????

The evap canister hoses are the likely cause of your current code, they dry and crack.

Look in the frame near the fuel filler to locate these hoses and fix any cracked hoses.

 

That is exactly what my mechanic said! Now could this be a cause for cylindar 2 misfire? Thank you much,I will let you know how this goes.
