Default Engine bolts question

I drive a 2003 4.7L V8. I was replacing the IAC valve the other day and noticed that there were 2 empty holes on top of the engine, one on each side. I'm guessing that if they were meant to be that way, there would be some type of plugs, but alas, there are only the two threaded holes. I have no idea if all Dodge engines are suppose to be this way, but input would definitively help. Thank!

Can you post a picture so everyone will know exactly where you are talking about? There's a lot of 4.7 owners here that will give you an answer. All my time I've spent under my truck I've noticed a few unused bolt holes here and there.

Like maybe about where the threaded holes are for lifting the engine?
