Default transfer case leakingfrom seal after taking drive shaft off

The mechanic at my work removed my drive shaft to check and see if i needed new u joints and then reinstalled it right away, and now 3 days later i noticed that where the drive shaft goes into the transfer case its now leaking fluid. If i wipe it dry it doesnt really drip untill after i drive it then when i go look i can see it slowly leaking out from the seal. Im guessing its only leaking while i drive and when its spinning because when its stopped its not leaking. Why would it suddenly start leaking from the seal? Is there a certain way the drive shaft is supposed to go back in? Do i need a new seal? Ive never had a problem before until the drive shaft was removed.

More then likley he damaged the seal when he re-installed the drive shaft. It's not that uncommon. Axles too. In fact, i just had the same exact issue with one of my front axles. I had both axles replaced a few months ago and noticed the drivers side axle seal on the differential was leaking. We pulled the axle and replaced the seal and you could see where it had been pinched when the axle was installed the first time. Thankfully, the part is cheap (around $5.00) and is not hard to replace. Pull the drivershaft again, pry the old seal out and install a new one.

I jsut re-read this and realized you are talking about the seal for the shaft coming from your transfer case? In other words, the front DRIVE shaft, not axle.

That is a different scenario. Here is a link from a Turbo Diesel application: http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/3r...haft-seal.html Shows what is involved. But the diff on your truck will not be the same. Might be easier?

The price you paid though seems way too high. What is the part number and description listed on the box?

Maybe i said it wrong but its the seal where the "top" of drive shaft goes in not the end that bolts to the rear diff. The dodge dealer charged me $55 for a new one. I checked around at parts stores and they dont carry it because its a dealer part, and i dont have to to order it online.
