Default AEM CAI/Ticking upon acceleration

I just installed a AEM Bruteforce CAI on my 2004 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi. Assembly was easy, truck fires right up and sounds ok. When I test drove it, I babied it at first then around 35-45 mph I accelerated and the truck makes an awfull ticking/spitting sound. I removed the intake and reinstalled stock one. Truck sounds fine. Do I need to have an aftermarket exhaust or headers??

Your hearing the EGR valve opening and closing - it's always done it, it's the purpose of the restrictive "Hemi Hat" to baffle the sound so it doesn't reach your ears.

In other words - perfectly normal...
