Fuel Filter Replacement
Hey Everyone,
Hope someone can answer my question. I have a 2007 1500 Quad Cab with the 5.7 Hemi 4X4. Is there a Fuel Filter that can be changed, or is it one of those style in the Gas tank.
My son emptied an old jerry can of gas in to the truck. It had a lot of debris in it and old gas that was yellow
. Truck will once a while idle rough and has a bad smell from the tail pipe.
If there is a filter that can be changed out, do I need a certain type of tools for the fuel lines to disassemble?
Cheers

Not 100% sure about the 07, but unfortunately the 05 is assembled in the fuel pump and cannot be replaced seperately. Unless you wanna pull the pump and replace it inside and put the old pumpback in. If I remember correctly, there isnt much of a filter anyways, but the screen may have some stuff in it.
Its a pain either way

Still drives me nuts that Chrysler put the fuel filter IN the fuel tank. Every other company seems to understand the simplicity of a fuel filter OUTSIDE the tank. But Dodge wants you to drop the tank to change it. Stupid.
If you have an occasional rough idle, I'd suggest throwing in a bottle of Fuel injector cleaner for 2 tanks in a row. You'll need 3 bottles to do that. Most Fuel Injector cleaners handle up to 20gal per bottle and the Ram has a 26gal tank. So, to be effective, you need to pour in 1.5bottles per tank.
I'd try that first and see if it solves your problem as you may have gunk build-up at your injectors.
I've used ALOT of fuel cleaners for many cars/truck. Lucas is a good maintenance cleaner, while Greased Lighting is very powerful stuff and works extremely well! I know NAPA and Oreilly's carries it. Not sure where else? But you could order it direct.
BTW, are you into RC cars or is the Savage name something you just came up with?

Yep, filter is in the pump (in the tank), which btw my last four trucks had as well so if GM and Ford have gotten them out of the tank, they've only done so recently.
My Grand Cherokee has two, one in the tank and one in the fuel line that can be gotten to.
But for your issue, yeah you want to treat that gas with a treatment that will break down dissolve those contaminants before contemplating dropping the tank (which ultimately may be what has to be done depending on how bad that gas was).

Thanks Guys,
I put in a bottle of Fuel Injector cleaner and a bottle of Gasoline conditoner for water. Ran the truck for 300k to burn off the gas in the tank. Hasn't had a rough Idle since, knock on wood.
