When you have your AC switched on, check to see if the AC Condenser fan is running. It's behind the small radiator on the drivers side, when you pop the hood.
This fan should be running all the time, the AC is on. Even when the trucks at idle.
If it isn't, it could be the AC fan motor crapped out on you. This is a very common issue and an easyish fix.
If it isn't spinning, hit the fan motor body with the base of a srewdriver with a shap tap. If it spins up....the motors goosed. Post up what you find and I'll help guide you on the repair.
The give away that it's not spinning is, your AC is fine when the truck is driving down the road. There's enough air flowing over the AC condenser radiator as the trucks being driven to cool the AC system, so the AC then works. As soon as you stop, the temp goes up and the AC packs in.

If that fan isn't running at idle with the AC switched on ....check the fuse that protects that fan before you do anything... Same thing just happened to me. Was a 25 amp small blade fuse I believe.

I don't know why it would start idling differently when you have the AC on.... other than the drag that the AC compressor puts on the engine. What do you mean by funny?.... gets rough.... slower or faster engine speed?

First off, THANK YOU for your service!!

Yep, sounds like the condenser motor is not turning. With the A/C on, try (carefully) to spin the condenser fan manually. It may just have a stuck pole (unlikely). Hopefully, it's just the fuse/relay.

If it's not the relay/fuse, it's worn brushes on the comutator in the fan motor.
Tap the base of the fan motor sharply with a large screwdrive base.
If the fan then spins up....it's the brushes worn out.
If people use the AC a lot, this will occur sooner.

In my case funny idle is a search for idle speed. 1100 rpm then down to 800 then up then down like it doesn't know were to idle at. I ordered a new fan but the idle thing has me puzzled. Sukingas03 sorry if I've jacked your thread and thank you for serving and also thanks for making it home safe.

Chogg your idle sounds like mine... My ac condenser fan turns off and on at idle with the AC on. Its not on all the time like it should be. So like you say abarmby I think the ac fan motor has crapped. But lucky me its been fairly cool and Ive had my son everyday but im gona go take a look at it now.

There are fans and motors on e-bay that you can buy as replacements rather than spending wads at the dealership Suckingas03. Also, there is a way to not have to evacuate the AC system to replace it.
It's a shady tree doable afternoon project that will save you hundreds of $'s at the dealership. So when you do it, post up and I'll help.
