I needed to do something with my truck for a little better towing. So, I opted for 4.56 gears as many fine peeps on this board suggested. My 03 is 4 wd, and I didnt want to change the front gears as well.

I have a spare differential.....and will be reinstalling the 3.92 diff for the winter when I need 4wd.

I received conflicting info....(not on this board) about whether or not the front drive shaft needed to be removed.....or just refrain from engaging 4wd. I opted to be safe...than sorry.

Next I wasnt sure if the output of the transfer case would leak oil when shaft was removed. A forum member helped me out and said it wouldnt leak.

Then, i wasnt too sure what exactly was under the rubber boot at the transfer case. I expected splines and voila.

So here are some pics. I used a rubber hose with an inside diamter of 1.250 to mimic the driveshaft and seal up the rubber boot. I used a zip tie as a temp clamp.

You'll do the front too.
Once you go to 4.56, you won't ever want to go back.
