Dunno where you are, but in northern (salt) states, corrosion can eat away at both the transfer case actuator and any electronics under the truck and in the engine compartment. I know a LOT of guys who have had to replace their entire fuse boxes due to salt spraying up and causing corrosion...
Amen brother, I'm with you on that! I fix my own too because I know it will be done right, the way I want it, and a helluva lot cheaper. Mechanics hate guys like us! Haha

Update:

TIPM, actuator and transfer case shift motor replaced again. shift motor was covered under the warrenty but its still unclear if the TIPM and acuator will be covered. We got our truck back but the service manager has to call the DSM. I don't see what the argument is, really.
Nov/11 - we had the tipm replaced. I guess they are saying this tipm was replaced on "mopar" which is why today's tipm cannot be covered.
I guess the tipm was replaced before we purchased the truck from a used lot, and this is why its going to cost us. The 1 year from this mystery tipm is over, though WE had nothing to with it. Reading the recipt from the Nov/11 change, it says the tipm, acuator and the shift motor were covered under our FCPP warrenty...so shouldn't this mean that the 12 months should start over.
They put today's tipm/acuator without calling to give me an estimate or my approval - not impressed with this either. its going to cost over 2000 if we have to pay.
They still can't answer what is causing the tipm/acuator to go....
Gathering information on a trade-in tomorrow, this is getting really really really stupid!!!

I wouldnt care if the Mopar'ed it or not as long as they replaced it being you have a warranty on it.

Update:
after the call to the DSM, it was covered thankfully. Hopefully this issue won't arise again in 6 months...
