Default Window Controller Fix

Not long after buying my truck, the window switches on the passenger doors stopped working. I've read that this is usually the cause of the main controller switch on the driver's door having a bad solder connection.

This was the case with my truck. I disassembled the switch assembly, prying off every switch except the mirror control buttons (actually I did but you don't need to). I seemed to have broke the window lock switch as it won't stay in the locked position, but the trade-off is fine in my book. Besides, my kids are 17 and 14 so I don't need to keep them from falling out of the car.

After taking apart the window switch, I took my 40X magnifier camera and took a shot of the bad joint. The main suspect is the lower connection, whereas the top connection looked a little stressed as well.

I resoldered all of the connections I could see there and here:

Everything resoldered.

Here's the zoom up of the bad connection. Difficult to see with the naked eye, but after 40X magnification, it's obvious there's a broken joint.

Hope this helps somebody.

Posted up just in time. I can no longer roll my passenger window down with my driver's side switch. Passenger side switch works fine, and I can make it go up, but not down. I'll have to look into this. Thanks.
