Thanks for the input. I may do the bags and the tuner and then again, I may do nothing. I just need and fairly inexpensive remedy for a year... maybe less until I can afford to add a tow rig to the used fleet or simply get new truck that solves all my needs.

BTW, is there any sense at all in buying an inexpensive, used 3/4 or 1 ton and sparing the 1/2 ton the stress and strain?

Be careful! I tried the "inexpensive" 3/4 ton route and it co$t me a fortune! So many little things were at the end of their life that it was no longer inexpensive. Off the top of my head I can remember: battery, brakes, rotors, shocks, tires then the biggie, once I got it hooked up to pull a decent load and warmed up, the tranny would slip everytime it went into it 3rd. Ran fine unloaded.

I think I just need to borrow the friends 3/4 ton until I have a more definite idea of what I want to do OR grow my pull rig budget.

Another thing that came to mind.... I assume I have the c-clip issue with this truck. I also assume towing with this issue will make it happen sooner?
