having issues with lifted 04 dodge ram

Default having issues with lifted 04 dodge ram

I just recently bought an 04 dodge ram 2500 with a hemi. It has a 6" super lift installed and i have noticed that when driving it it will pull to one side or another. I constantly have to fight with the truck. I'm not sure if this is normal for lifted trucks with big tires as i am new to lifted trucks. Also the tires are wearing perfectly. So its not out of line. I can also hear a rattle when i hit bumps on the passenger side so i took a look and noticed the sway bar can be moved side to side with little force.could my sway bar end links and sway bar bushing need replaced? And could this be causing my constant fighting with the truck? Thanks

I'm not at all familiar with super lift lift kits, nor did you mention what size tires, mileage on lift kit or truck, etc. You may not know as you but as is, so hard to tell.

A little play is ok, if you can feel or hear any noise in it you have an issue. You can replace the bushings pretty cheap.

Big lifted trucks may roam around your lane a bit, and depending on what the lift kit actually replaced as far as susp parts you may wander more than others.

Any play in steering wheel?

No play in the steering wheel. It has 37 tires on it. I'm going to try replacing the sway bar bushings and end links. Maybe this will help?

Just because your tires aren't wearing funny doesn't mean the alignment is good. You can still have a toe in/out issue! This makes you fight to turn or keep straight if this is out of whack! Toe wear covers much more of the tire, so it's not as noticeable as camber wear.


Toe Effects

A setting of zero-toe (wheel pointed straight ahead) gives the least amount of rolling resistance, best acceleration and top speed. The reason that vehicles have any toe at all is that this setting affects its straight-line stability and cornering agility. A slight toe-in (wheels pointed in) will make the vehicle more stable at speed, but will reduce steering response. Toe-out angle will make the car's steering response sharper, but make make it a bit darty.

If the wheels don't have the same toe angle, this can pull you all over the road and make turning either right or left somewhat difficult depending on the toe angle.

A swaybar can make your truck "float" on the road to the left-right slightly making you keep correcting your steering wheel, but not like a toe issue would which would pull you all over the place. You would also notice sway while going around turns with bad swaybar/bushings where as bad toe adjustment would feel somewhat solid around turns besides the initial pull.

I checked all the tires pressure. Its all fine. I might try replacing the sway bar bushings and sway bar end links and have it aligned and see where that puts me.
