Does anyone's cluster do this?
I noticed when I replaced my Instrument cluster 1.5yrs ago that everytime I open the door the stepper motors make this quick ratcheting sound. It did this with the original cluster prior to replacement and since both have done it I thought it to be somewhat normal...???
With the truck unlocked and the interior domelight not illuminated and no key in the ignition, Open your door while sitting in your sdriver seat and listen closely to the Cluster. See if it makes a very quick low volume stepper motor ratcheting sound.:icon_denk: Let me know how you make out. I'm sure nobody has ever paid attention to this soooooo, ONLY REPLY AFTER ABOVE HAS BEEN DONE PLEASE!!! Thanks. |
no sound here

No sound here also

It's very faint, you need to wait atleast 60sec in between eacj attempt and if your not inside you wont hear it. I cant open the door 5 times in a row and have the same thing happen. It's a timed reset it seems and happens when the odometer/trip readout is displayed.
Its something I noticed when I was paying real close attn to my old cluster. I just have a hard time believing two clusters in a row have the same noise and the fact its so faint, nobody has reported this or experienced this?? |
Checked mine.. no sound here...

No sound on mine. But the fact the door contacts and dome lights are tied to the gauge cluster would not make it that bizzare i guess.

No sound on mine either. When you replaced yours, did you get it VIN matched or does it still have a different VIN programmed in it?
|
I just checked, and I did hear it. As far as I know, mine has the original cluster, and the only time it was removed was when I did the LED bulb conversion. I don't have any issues with the cluster, but I did hear the noise when the odometer display came on.

Also, I met this random guy in the parking lot at Lowes who had a 2006 Megacab. Guy was in early 60's and pretty cool/calm. I asked him if he heard the noise and he said nope. I asked if we could investigate and he said sure hop in. We sat for just over a minute and sure enough, when he opened his door, I heard the noise! At first he said he didn't hear it. We did it again and this time he held the door handle from slapping back and it was clear as day. Old man goes..."Thanks for breaking my truck"...lol We both laughed. CONFIRMED NORMAL!!! THANKS GUYS. I APPRECIATE IT. MAKES ME FEEL MUCH BETTER! |

Yeah, Vin matched directly from dealer. It's 2006+ odometers I was thinking that did the noise, not 05-prior
