Default front main seal leak

i repaced the front main seal with a new one but its still leaking. It looks like its coming from the shaft (inner part) of the seal. Any ideas on why it still may be leaking

Did you use the right tools to press fit the seal back in? And since you had the cover off, did you go ahead and change out the cam while you were there?

I just took the seal out and then put the new one in and took the damper placed it on the snout then banged it in there with a hammer and 2/4. And yes I did change out the cam while I was there. The seal felt nice and snug seeing as how it was tough getting it back in there

Are you sure its from the seal and not from the corners of the timing cover where it mates to the pan. Did you add permatex there?

Yes sir I'm sure. I cleaned it off really good with some brake cleaner then drove it a little while and checked it again. And it was leaking again. It wasn't leaking as much as before though. The lip of the seal is supposed to be on the outside correct? I bought a new damper just in case I needed it and it had a different setup on it where the seal sets in it. Some type of metal seal or something. I didn't use it because it wasn't the same as what was in my truck plus the original one looked fine.

Only ting I can tell you is to spray degreaser on it real good and rinse it off and see where the oil is actually coming from such as the inside lip of the seal or the outside

It's coming from the inside of the seal but it only leaks when the truck is running
