I have a 2007 ram hemi with 545rfe transmission. How many quarts can I expect to add with a fluid and filter change? It is the stock transmission pan.

 

If you do a drop 'n' drain, expect to refill about seven quarts. I bought nine quarts when I did mine. Used one for the power steering in the Ram and the 300, still have one left. DON'T just refill with seven quarts, though! Put in five, get it good and hot and check the level.

 

Downloading the service manual is a good idea as it can help you both now AND later. Adding a drain pan bolt in the trans pan is a good idea while it is down and remember to properly torque the trans pan bolts of they will snap.

 

I did the service and put in a total of 8 qts. Drove it a few miles in this hot southern weather and it is just above the hot mark. I've read that 5.5 qts is the fill capacity. It is a 2 wd ram. Did I overfill it drastically?

The fluid expands when it gets up to operating temp. Even in hot southern weather you really need to go more than a few miles. If its drastically overfilled it can expand enough that it will start pouring out of the dipstick/fill pipe, then onto the exhaust manifolds, and you'll have a fun engine fire. I would go more like 10 miles and let it run through some gears on the highway and then check the fluid while its running.
